Since my diagnosis I have taken a really close look at my diet. I've found that by thinking carefully about what I eat, the quality of the ingredients and how they are prepared I can make a big difference to how I feel. I hope it's boosting my immune system too!

I try and eat organic where ever possible. There's so much rubbish added to food these days I think.
Thinking about trying to cut down or even cut out dairy produce after reading Jane Plant's book. What does anyone else think of her book?
I've not had breast cancer, my cancer was thyroid. I've just had a neck dissection to remove cancerous lymph nodes from my neck.
But after having a fairly rare cancer it makes me feel like anything is now possible and so I try to take as good care of myself as possible .

Thanks for posting your message Wendy.
I hope that you are well now. When did you have your operation for thyroid cancer?
I am still in remission from ovarian cancer and although I've relaxed my diet to include some less healthy stuff I still eat lots of fruit and veg and little dairy and wheat.
all the best Francesca x |

Hi Francesca
my name is Karen not Wendy
I had my thyroid out in two stages, the last op being October 2004. Then last October, after an all clear scan, a blood test detected that all was not well. An ultrasound revealed lymph node involvement that, according to my new consultant, had been there all the time!!! I had a neck dissection 6 weeks ago. They removed 60 nodes, 36 had cancer in them.
I had another blood test last Friday which should show low levels of thyroglobulin which detects cancer so I'm just waiting for the results of that. If that is low then it's just monitoring. My prognosis is good though, my consultant says he's not worried about me, which is good!!
Good to hear you're in remission
love Karenx |

Hi Karen Sorry about gtting your name wrong - I blame it on my hormones (whats left of them) these days!
Sounds like you've had a tough time ovre the last couple of years. I am glad that you are optimistic and your consultant isn't worried.
GOod luck with the test results.
I'm off to see a friend now who has had breast cancer but is now in remission and has a good prognosis.
I am thinking of writing a book with another friend who is also a psychotherapist and who's mum died of ovarian cancer when she wass only 51 and who has a partner with cancer at present. We want to write about our experiences and those of others as well as talking about therapy and help for people with cancer.
Would you be interested in sharing any of your experiences?
love

Hi Francesca
Yes I would definately be interested in sharing my experiences.
My experience of cancer has left me keen to work with those who have cancer. Not sure in what capacity yet though! I was doing a degree in English at university. I left to have a baby and a month after she was born the lump came up in my neck, which turned out to be cancer. I was halfway through my degree (as a mature student, I turned 40 just before Christmas!) and was due to go back this January but had to have more surgery. I'm not sure I want to go back to be honest. As you know, your priorities change after a cancer diagnosis but I would like to write about my experience sometime.
best wishes, Karenx |
